Pope Francis has said use of the religious symbol `the Crucifix’ (cross) as a fashion accessory contributes to abuse of the religious object.

In a speech at St Peter’s Square in the Vatican, Pope Francis said that the religious symbol should be “contemplated and understood”, and “not be abused”. Highlighting the religious meaning of the cross, he said: “the crucifix is not an ornamental object or a clothing accessory which is sometimes abused, but a religious sign to be contemplated and understood. The image of Jesus crucified reveals the mystery of the death of the Son as the supreme act of love, the source of life and salvation for humanity of all times. How do I look at the crucifix? Like a work of art, to see if it’s beautiful or not beautiful? Or do I look inside, within the wounds of Jesus up to his heart? I look at the mystery of God annihilated to death, like a slave, like a criminal.”

His comments mirror those made by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 2013, within the foreword of his first Lent book. Speaking about how the crucifix is used, Most Revd Justin Welby wrote: “For those early Christians it was a badge of shame. Today it is more commonly seen as a symbol of beauty to hang around your neck. As a friend of mine used to say, ‘you might as well hang a tiny golden gallows or an electric chair around your neck’.”

FG confirms release of 104 Dapchi school girls, shares photos of the freed girls
The Federal Government said a total of 106 abducted persons, comprising 104 Daphi schoolgirls, one other girl and a boy were freed by insurgents in the early hours of Wednesday.

Briefing journalists in Maiduguri, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said all the 106 persons were freed unconditionally, contrary to reports in a section of the media that ransom was paid and that some insurgents were swapped for the freed persons.

''It is not true that we paid ransom for the release of the Dapchi girls, neither was there a prisoner swap to secure their release. What happened was that the abduction itself was a breach of the ceasefire talks between the insurgents and the government, hence it became a moral burden on the abductors. Any report that we paid ransom or engaged in prisoner swap is false,'' he said.
Meanwhile, the freed persons have been formally handed over to the Federal Government.
The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, handed over the girls and one boy to the four-member Federal Government Delegation at the Nigerian Air Force base in Maiduguri on Wednesday evening
The delegation comprised the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazau (retired); the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hajia Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim and Hon. Goni Lawan Bukar, a member of House of Representatives from Dapchi.
The girls were immediately airlifted to Abuja aboard a military transport plane.

Cynthia Nwadiora, Cee-C is still insisting that she has never ever had sex in her life.
This will be the second time the controversial housemate will be stating it.
She had previously told Teddy A, that she has never been with a man before, but Tobi disagreed, and revealed that she touched his D, one night.
Now, this night, Cee-C during a game with Alex, insisted she’s never had sex.
Alex asked her the last time she went down with a guy, and she said “never”.
Rico then said so in her 5 years on earth she has never slept with a man, she told him to mind his business as he was not part of the game.
Recall, yesterday, Alex took a swipe at Cee-C over her fight with Nina.
Cee-c on Monday evening engaged in a heated argument in the kitchen with Nina over sharing of food.
Cee-c rained insults on Nina during the argument.
Alex in defence of Nina called on Cee-c to stop looking down on people.
She was quoted as saying “There is no level in this house Cee-c.
“When you say unto what level , who are you, you are looking down on people, you don’t tell people who are you.
“I do not like that kind of question, you have a shallow mind.”

For the second time in 2 years, Eric Many, the record label that signed Nigerian pop star, Runtown has filed an injunction at a Federal High court against the singer for breach of contract.
According to a mail sent by Eric Many to Us, the entertainment company served Runtown the court papers with Suit No: FHC/L/CS/267/2018 a few days back with a statement that partly reads:
Runtown has been deliberately breaching his contract with us (Eric Many) for a while and despite our many appeals to him he has refused to bulge.
He went for a show in Las Vegas since January 13th, 2018 and has since decided to withdraw all obligations of his contract.
He has steadily been recording an album without the consent and approval of his record label.
According to the statement of claim filed at the Federal High Court by Eric Many:
A Recording Agreement was made between the Plaintiff and the Defendant dated 22nd June 2016, the copyright and other intellectual property and cognate rights and legal positions and protections applicable to all works done by the Defendant during an initial period of two years covered by the Agreement, is vested in the Plaintiff.
The Plaintiff will rely on a copy of the said Recording Agreement at trial. 7. Under the Agreement, parties recognize and acknowledge the sum of N114,456,670.00 (One Hundred and Fourteen Million, Four Hundredand Fifty Six Thousand,Six Hundred and Seventy Naira) as “Prior Investment”, representing the sum invested by the Plaintiff into the development of the Defendant’s musical works and records under the defunct ‘Artiste Agreement’, precursor to the ‘Recording Agreement”.
In a press statement issued Monday morning, the label also stated that:
He’s recording with artists like Del B without the written approval of the label and without an Eric Many appointee at the point of recording as agreed in our contract.
Runtown has also been appearing in venues and collecting appearance fees without the approval of the label and also performing in private shows without the label’s consent which contravenes clause 4.4.1 of his record deal which states that ‘the Defendant(Runtown) can only engage in recording, collaborating or performing with other artistes for third parties or other record companies upon proper notification in advance to the Plaintiff.
Upon this notification, the Plaintiff would then enter into an agreement with the collaborating artiste or his record company to ensure that the Plaintiff and the Defendant receive proper credit, legal/copyright protection and compensation for the collaborative work.
Though Runtown’s record deal with Eric Many is due to expire at some point this year, the label says he still owes the company a lot of money including:
Hundreds of millions in Naira from the Lamborghini Gallardo super-fast car which he still has to pay back to the label and and also an album that must be released through the right channels.
He has been doing numerous collaborations with several artists without getting the written approval of the label and as a result, no royalties have come back to the label from any of these collaborations.
He has been warned severally about this on numerous occasions but he refused to listen, so we as the label had to go to court to stop him from these dubious actions.
The label also confirms sacking his current manager, Ifeanyi Nwunne saying:
Eric Many has also fired Ifeanyi Nwunne as Runtown’s manager. He is more of a drug addict that smokes marijuana round the clock. A new manager will be appointed soonest.
Eric Many in its statement of claim is seeking the sum of:
N65 MILLION being General Damages against the Defendant (Runtown) in favour of the Plaintiff for infringement of the Plaintiff’s copyright to the collaborative musical works “Call Me” and “Weekend” both of which featured the Defendant as well as N5 MILLION as costs of this action.
Eric Many has chosen to hold back on anything pertaining to Runtown, till further investigations. This means that anyone who engages Runtown without a written approval from Eric Many, signed by the chairman, will be sued heavily.
This will be the second time in two years that Runtown has had a face off with his label.
In May 2016, he was sued by Eric Many on allegations that he signs up, concludes and attends musical shows without the knowledge of the label.
Back then, Eric Many also secured a court injunction stopping Runtown from performing as an artiste anywhere in the world. He later went back to the label to apologize and the case was settled out of court.

A total of 54 students graduated with   first class degree certificates in the 2016/2017 academic session of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku, made the disclosure, on Monday, in his office during the press conference to herald activities lined up this week to mark the 12th Convocation Ceremony of the University.
Ahaneku also disclosed that a total of 7731 graduands will be taking part in the convocation ceremony with a breakdown showing that 6641 graduands are for first degrees, 190 for Post Graduate Diplomas, 674 for Masters of Science degrees and 227 for Doctorate degrees.
The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi will deliver the Convocation lecture with the topic: “Igbos in the Politics of Nigeria” while two distinguished Nigerians, Senator Ben Ndii Obi and former Minister, Alhaji Sanni Zango Daura and a Chinese, Chief Jacob Kaywood will be honoured with honourary doctorate degrees.
He noted that the choice of the three recipients of the honourary doctorate degrees represents the cosmopolitan nature of the Awka Federal University named after the great Zik of Africa in accommodating the diverse nature of the world at large.
Ahaneku also said the university has deepened its relationship with the Chinese Government through its Confucius Institute domiciled in the University that apart from producing many students on Chinese scholarship in China, the Chinese government through its Embassy in Nigeria just announced the visit of 500 top Chinese companies to the University to recruit graduating students for all their companies world over especially those that have the language advantage.
He disclosed that the 12th Convocation of the University is the third in his administration aimed at maintaining the core values and real tradition of university tradition where students are admitted and also graduated annually.
“What this means is that we have started the core values and real tradition of the University system. Before this time, many Universities have backlog of years without convocation but those of us who are managers of Universities converged in Keffi, Nassarawa State, in 2011 and resolved that as we admit students into the university system, we hold orientation and matriculation for them and as the students graduate, we also organize the graduation ceremony known as Convocation.  That is the joy and beauty of mentorship and the essence of being in the university because there should be a distinction between a student that graduates and those who don’t,” he said.

We have received several reports about an alleged sexual harassment that happened to some female students in Madonna University.
According to an email we received from the students, they revealed to us that the School Authority decided not to provide lights to the school hostel as a punishment for the students for not going to the main campus, Elele.
The Email reads thus: “Yesterday night Madonna university okija refused to give light to the hostels as a punishment for the students not going to the main campus Elele.”
“At about 1:34am this morning some security men came into the girls hostel to harass the female students and it was led by the school cso Mr Okere.
“Girls who were sleeping naked were slapped and kicked. The girls were sleeping naked because of the heat in the hostel because the school in her wisdom refused to give light to the hostels.
“The men came to the hostels with hummers.out of shock two girls fainted and one of them jumped from the three floors of her hostel because she feared it rapist.
“The girl is seriously injured. This is a human rights matter and a crime against Womanhood.”
Another student also took to Facebook to write;
“Integrity in a ruler is the secret of well being in the followers. Edeh (2014)
“The unspeakable things that happened yesterday (especially with the female students and in their hostels at the dead of night) in a most unlikely place has left us confused and almost without any sense of direction.
“We are still asking questions and wondering how we got to this point of unreservedly brandishing thoughtlessness and glorying in the sufferings of unarmed and helpless persons who have been entrusted into our care.”
“The so called security officers in Madonna University, Okija, are for want of words, directionless touts and refurbished hoodlums. The evils that they perpetrated yesterday (not bringing to mind prior evils) should not be “published in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the philistines rejoice.”
“Of particular note is the Chief Security Officer, Mr. Pius Chukwuma Okere, a retired army officer who does not know the differences between the male and female folks and their temperaments, a man who is filled with so much hatred for the female students of Madonna University; a man who treats women worse than he treats men, one is left to wonder if he was from a different planet that is characterised by an unending war of the sexes. The molestations that the female students have suffered at his hands can only be told in whispers, and yesterday’s was the height of it. [The details are not something that should be recounted.]”
“It may not be enough – surely it cannot be enough by way of a reprieve. But our good thoughts are with our dearest sisters.”
“It is one thing to profess that one is a “trailblazer,” “An institution with a difference,” and others of such endearments that our beloved institution is known for; and it is quite a different thing to be seen doing the opposite.”
“A lot of abuses of students rights have been happening and no one dares speak up. Not when there are ‘Big Brother Laws’ that may/can use whatever you say against you and have you “excommunicated” with just a snap of the fingers.”
“Sometimes those who would dare speak up see it as a waste of precious time and energy, and as an instance of puting oneself in the line of fire. But assuredly, when a student fails, he does not fail alone… He fails with all those who failed to do their duties.”
According to what we know, this isn’t the first time a case of sexual harassment or assault by the school’s security will happen.
According to a source who spoke exclusively to YabaLeftOnline… the source revealed to us that a female student who was celebrating her final paper in 2016 got suspended after she was brutally assaulted by a security personnel.
Apparently the school warned the final year students not to celebrate whatsoever, but they never listened.
During their celebration & jubilation the school security came to their hostel, things escalated, and a security guy broke a bottle on the female student’s head.
According to the source, the girl got suspended and the security guy got sacked. She just had her project defense left!

A Nigerian Lady on Facebook with the Facebook Id, Amara Chukwu Sarkodie has taken to her YabaLeftOnline Facebook Group to say she can in no way date Igbo guys especially Phyno.
The Lady, who’s Igbo says Igbo guys are rude, and she can in no way date any Igbo guys.
She simply wrote on the platform; “I can never date phyno. he is an Igbo and will be rude”
She further explained on her wall as thus:
I can never date or marry Azubuike aka phyno.
1. He is an Igbo man and definitely he will be rude and won’t be submissive.
He has this anambra wicked look. I run away from anambra and IMO guys because they are too arrogant.
2. He is richer than me. I will never marry any rich man when I know I have not started earning millions, I do not want to tolerate insult from them.
3. He is a celebrity and would likely cheat. I don’t want a cheat.
I don’t know how my aunt was so lucky to marry an anambra man that respects her and her decision but as for me I am joining Amanda adichie to marry non Igbo.
I laugh when they say Igbo men are the best and most romantic.
They are only the best for you that agreed to stoop low for them just to answer wife material.
Anyways I comment my reserve.
If phyno should ask me out, I will turn down his offer.

Hushpuppi is not here for trolls, he has not come to play on Social media, as he has on multiple occasions put some trolls in their rightful places.
The Malaysian-Based Nigerian Big Boy is known for always flaunting his “wealth” on Social media, as he keeps donning expensive designer wears and what’s not.
In a recent post he made on his social media, an Instagram user, @ochabutic decided to call out the Socialite.. She wrote; “Vanity upon vanity, you wear the most expensive cloth, you sample them on social media. How many times have you advertised Jesus? How many people have you changed their lives. Anybody that has really have money don’t act like you. People that has money doesn’t make noise such as “Iam_emoney1 @wizkidayo @genevievennaji @davidoofficial. and many more. Please wake up little boy and stop behaving like a chicken”.
Hushpuppi had a response for her of course, and it reads thus; “I still don’t understand how you married old women with children will come on someone else’s child’s page that you wasn’t invited to, to come and say stupid things and not minding your business.”
“Now if I decide to swear for your child wey dey mind him own business jeje now, they will say I’m a bad person. If you no want make Ogun kill your papa and your full household, no carry your bastard dirty mouth come my page come dey complain as I dey live my life. Ini Edo has joined the league of Rihanna and Toke Makinwa who have rocked one of the hottest face accessory, the D&G crystals embellished sunglasses.
The shades were first made popular by singer, Rihanna, who first rocked them, and posted some pictures on her Instagram page..
One of the shades costs about $2,500, which equals, N900,000 in naira.
In Nigeria, Toke Makinwa was the first female celebrity to rock the shades.
See another photo below;
Meanwhile, Ini Edo while in a chat with Rubbin’ Minds on Channels TV months ago said she is happy to have divorced her husband
Ini Edo got married to an American based businessman, Phillip in 2008.
She allegedly walked out of the marriage in September, 2014 following accusations of domestic violence and cheating.
Speaking on ‘Rubbing Minds’ the actress cited resolvable differences and incompatibility as the major reasons for the crash of her marriage.
Ini Edo said that closeness should have, may be, saved her marriage since her former husband was in America and she in Nigeria.
She said, “May be being together would have helped keep us together. Because it would enable us study and understand each other more. May be it would helped but I’m not sure.
Asked if her estranged husband was comfortable with her kind of job, she said, “He met me an actress and I believe he was okay with that.
“Actually he complained. My work takes my time and interferes with so many things.
“I tried to keep my [movie] roles as decent as possible when I got married. But naturally, there are certain roles you won’t be allowed to play.
“Even when you are allowed to play them, you can reject them not just because of your husband but you got relations as well.
Asked if her former husband’s family interfered in her marriage, she added, “He was the last child, so family members will try to see if their child is doing okay.
“I try not to regret [the time I spent in marriage] but I will say, it’s been an experience I have learnt a lot from. It made me a stronger person. It made me wiser and I think it actually made me more mature.”
